With direct accountability to Grande Prairie and its taxpayers, the Grande Prairie Police Service is being developed based on our community’s needs as a young, growing city that is a regional hub of northwestern Alberta.
GPPS will be nimble and responsive in all aspects of delivery from developing enhanced public safety infrastructure to maintaining greater cost control. The Grande Prairie Police Commission grants local decision-making autonomy, providing increased local oversight, accountability, and efficiency relevant to Grande Prairie.
Some specific infrastructure development is happening now, including an integrated public safety communications centre (dispatch), a real-time operations centre with 24-hour staffing, and specialized policing capabilities in the form of a local emergency response team. These promote long-term cost savings and opportunity for more expedient service.
