The Grande Prairie Police Service has reached another significant milestone, as the first detachment shift fully staffed by GPPS officers was deployed out of the Grande Prairie RCMP detachment on December 1, 2025. While GPPS members have been integrated into detachment operations since July 2024, one of the four squads is now fully comprised of GPPS officers.

“This milestone reflects the teamwork, professionalism, and dedication of every member of the Grande Prairie Police Service,” says Sergeant Walter Kubrak. “As we take on more responsibility through the policing transition, our priority remains the same: providing consistent, community-focused policing and ensuring the people of Grande Prairie feel safe and supported.”

GPPS members working out of the detachment are supported by the Community Standards Unit, established earlier this year to address social disorder and traffic concerns, alongside Grande Prairie Enforcement Services and Mobile Outreach. Together, these teams form a coordinated, community-focused approach to safety and wellbeing.

As of December 2025, the Grande Prairie Police Service has hired 54 sworn officers, with an additional 10 recruits currently in training and scheduled to graduate in March 2026. With their graduation, GPPS will expand to 64 sworn officers, surpassing the halfway point toward its planned complement of 110 members.

Citizens are reminded that the process to follow during an emergency remains the same. In an emergency, call 911. For non-emergencies or to report a crime, contact the RCMP detachment directly at 780-830-5700.
